RRB Recruitment (ALP, JE, RPF, Technician) : Over 71 lakh candidates registered for 92,116 vacancies

After easing of restrictions imposed amid Covid 19, two major exams involving more than 2.37 crore were held and as many as 1,30,581 candidates have been recruited in the Railways 

The Union government recruited 5.02 lakh candidates in the Indian Railways between 2014-2015 and 2023-2024, while it was 4.11 lakh during the period from 2004-2005 to 2013-2014. In 2024 alone, the ministry announced a vacancy of 92,116 posts, and according to data shared by the government, 71,77,140 candidates applied for the same.

He further said that the Indian Railways has initiated one of its largest recruitment drives, announcing ten Centralized Employment Notifications (CENs) in 2024 for the 92,116 vacancies. These openings, notified between January and December 2024, cover multiple roles, including Assistant Loco Pilots, Technicians, Sub-Inspectors, Constables in the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Junior Engineers (JEs), Depot Material Superintendents (DMS), Chemical and Metallurgical Assistants (CMA), Paramedical staff, Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate and Under-Graduate), Ministerial & Isolated Categories, and Level-1 posts.

The recruitment process is underway, with the first stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-I) for 41,500 posts conducted between November 25 and December 30, 2024. Additionally, the computer-based test for RPF CEN No. 02/2024, involving 4,208 Constable vacancies, started on March 2, 2025 and for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot is scheduled on March 19 and 20.

The minister also said that after easing of restrictions imposed amid Covid 19, two major examinations involving more than 2.37 crore were held and as many as 1,30,581 candidates have been recruited in the Railways.

In another response, the minister stated that as part of a system improvement, the Ministry of Railways has introduced an annual recruitment calendar from 2024 for various Group ‘C’ posts. This initiative aims to provide more opportunities for candidates, including those who become eligible each year, ensuring greater certainty in the examination process. Additionally, it is expected to accelerate recruitment, training, and appointment procedures, making the overall system more efficient and transparent.
